Somatic Massage for Women: What the Science Actually Says

Modern life places significant physical and mental demands on many women. Between work, family, caregiving responsibilities, exercise, and daily stressors, it is common to experience ongoing muscle tension, fatigue, and difficulty fully relaxing.

Somatic Massage is a gentle, full-body treatment designed to support relaxation, reduce everyday muscle tension, and promote general well-being. It uses slow, flowing techniques and light to moderate pressure, with an emphasis on comfort and body awareness.

Current research suggests that massage therapy may help reduce perceived stress, ease muscle tension, improve relaxation, and support general well-being for some people. Results vary between individuals, and massage is best understood as a supportive therapy rather than a treatment for medical conditions.

Treatment Options

60-Minute Session — $100

A shorter treatment suitable for those who prefer selected areas of the body or a more contained session while still receiving a relaxation-focused massage.

90-Minute Session — $140

A longer session that allows for a slower, more comprehensive full-body treatment with more time for relaxation and unhurried pacing.

Who May Benefit?

Somatic Massage may be helpful for women experiencing:

  • Ongoing stress or mental fatigue

  • General muscle tension or tightness

  • Sleep disturbance related to stress

  • Demanding work or caregiving responsibilities

  • Postural strain from desk work or repetitive tasks

  • Exercise-related muscle tightness

  • Perimenopause or menopause-related changes affecting comfort and well-being

  • Premenstrual tension or fatigue

  • Postpartum recovery (after medical clearance)

Areas That May Be Included

Each session is tailored to your comfort and may include:

  • Back

  • Neck and shoulders

  • Arms and hands

  • Gluteal muscles

  • Abdomen (optional and only with consent)

  • Chest (optional and only with consent)

  • Legs (front and back)

  • Inner thigh region (only where appropriate and with explicit consent)

  • Feet (optional)

Not all clients prefer foot massage, so this area is always optional. Areas affected by skin irritation or injury may be excluded for safety and comfort.

Pressure is always adjusted to your preference. This is a relaxation-based treatment rather than a deep tissue or remedial massage.

Your Comfort, Privacy & Consent

Your comfort, privacy, and informed consent are central to every treatment.

Before your session, we will discuss your preferences, any areas you would like included or excluded, and any relevant health considerations.

Sensitive areas—including the abdomen, chest, gluteal region, and inner thighs—are only treated with your explicit consent and can be declined or stopped at any time.

Professional draping is used throughout the session to maintain privacy and comfort. Clients may choose to wear their G-string or use a disposable G-string if preferred. You might be a free spirit, and don't want to be covered or wear a G-string, and that's your right.

If your main concern is injury, pain, or restricted movement in a specific area, a remedial massage may be more appropriate, so please book a Remedial massage.

Potential Benefits

Research suggests massage therapy may help:

  • Can reduce perceived stress

  • Can ease everyday muscle tension

  • Can support relaxation

  • Can improve general well-being

  • Can increase body awareness

  • Can improve sleep quality for some individuals

  • Can provide dedicated time for rest and recovery

Massage is a complementary therapy and does not replace medical or psychological treatment when those are needed.

What to Expect

Somatic Massage is a gentle, supportive treatment designed to help you slow down and reconnect with your body.

Each session is guided by how you feel on the day, with attention to comfort, pace, and individual needs. The focus is on relaxation, awareness of bodily sensations, and easing general tension.

Many women choose this type of massage during periods of stress or as part of their ongoing self-care routine.

An Evidence-Based Approach

My practice is guided by current scientific evidence, professional standards, and client-centred care.

I do not use or promote unsupported claims such as massage “detoxing the body,” “releasing stored trauma,” “resetting the nervous system,” or “breaking down fascia adhesions.”

Instead, the focus is on what evidence supports: relaxation, reduction of perceived stress, easing of muscle tension, and improved well-being for some individuals.

Table Size & Client Safety

My electric massage table is a professional sports and remedial treatment table designed to support active and therapeutic massage techniques. While it has a strong weight capacity, it is narrower than some spa-style treatment tables.

For safety and comfort reasons, clients must be able to lie comfortably on the table with their arms resting alongside their body without risk of falling off the sides. Clients also need to be able to turn over independently and safely during treatment.

If you have any concerns about the table width in relation to your body size, mobility, balance, or comfort when changing positions, please contact Ray before booking so we can discuss whether this treatment setup is suitable for your needs.

Client and practitioner safety, dignity, and comfort are always prioritised above all other considerations, including bookings or payment.
