I specialise in women’s health and have over 10 years of clinical experience in this field. As a male remedial massage therapist working in women’s health, I understand that patient comfort is essential. If you would prefer care from a different practitioner, I encourage you to seek a provider who aligns with your comfort level.
This session focuses specifically on the management of localised swelling associated with lymphoedema, particularly in the legs, ankles, and arms. I do not provide full-body lymphatic drainage.
Lymphoedema commonly develops following cancer treatment involving lymph node dissection or radiation therapy, such as after a mastectomy. When lymphatic transport capacity is reduced, protein-rich interstitial fluid can accumulate in affected regions, leading to chronic swelling, tissue fibrosis, heaviness, discomfort, and increased infection risk.
The lymphatic system is distributed throughout the body. When part of the system is compromised, compensatory pathways may become overloaded, contributing to distal swelling — including in the upper or lower limbs.
Manual therapy, when delivered appropriately and within the scope of practice, may assist in:
Treatment is performed using gentle, evidence-informed techniques consistent with principles used in conservative lymphoedema management. Massage therapy should be integrated into a broader care plan that may include medical supervision, compression therapy, exercise prescription, and self-management strategies.
I work with individuals managing severe chronic pain, post-surgical recovery (including spinal surgery and mastectomy), amputees, sports injuries, and complex physical health conditions. I have supported many women experiencing limb swelling following breast cancer treatment.
All care is delivered conservatively and in alignment with current understanding of lymphatic physiology. Clients are encouraged to remain under the guidance of their primary healthcare provider when managing lymphoedema.
