Advanced Clinical Application: Beyond Traditional Massage


My work extends beyond traditional massage therapy.

With many years of advanced training and extensive hands-on clinical experience, I apply myofascial trigger point therapy and precision-based soft tissue techniques in areas that are often overlooked or avoided due to the depth of anatomical knowledge required.

Muscles do not function in isolation.


They connect directly to tendons, which anchor into bone and transmit force throughout the body.

If tension is only addressed in the muscle belly — but not where the muscle transitions into tendon — restrictions often remain.


Why This Matters

The muscle–tendon junction is where force is transferred. It is also where:

  • Chronic overload accumulates
  • Adhesions often develop
  • Trigger points can refer to pain.
  • Performance limitations originate

Without properly assessing and treating these attachment sites, full resolution is unlikely.


My training allows me to work safely and effectively in:

  • Deeper myofascial layers
  • Specific trigger point referral patterns
  • Muscle–tendon junctions
  • Stabilising muscles are often missed in general massage.
  • Compensation chains affecting distant areas of pain


This level of precision requires a strong understanding of anatomy, biomechanics, and neuromuscular function — along with years of hands-on clinical refinement.

Many remedial and sports massage therapists focus primarily on relaxation or general muscle release and don’t go to a deeper level of tendon release.


My work is structured, assessment-driven, and performance-oriented.

Then I apply targeted myofascial and trigger point therapy to restore proper tissue glide, reduce overload at the tendon level, and normalise muscle activation.

In the context of your sports massage and athletic performance, MTJ stands for the Musculotendinous Junction. It is the specific "bridge" or transition zone where your muscle fibres end and your tendon tissue begins.


⭐ The Athletic Performance Framework Structural Integration & Whole-Body Optimisation.


At Athletic Sports Massage Canberra, Ray provides a high-level clinical intervention designed for the dedicated athlete. We move beyond the "muscle belly" focus of standard massage to treat the body as a pressurised canister—linking the pelvic floor, the respiratory system, and the musculoskeletal attachments into one efficient unit.

⭐ 1. The Power Base: Pelvic Floor Massages & Abdominal Integration.

Power is generated from the core. By integrating pelvic floor massages (addressing external attachment points) and Full Abdominal Massage, we optimise the "base" of your functional canister.

  • The Science: We release the tension in the psoas and iliacus that "tethers" the hips.

For the female athlete, the chest wall is a critical recovery zone. We address the fascia of the breast tissue and the pectoral muscles to restore "Tensegrity" to the upper body and optimise local circulation.

  • The Science: The breasts contain a dense network of lymphatic vessels and blood supply. Tightness in the pectoral fascia can compress these vessels, leading to fluid congestion and "heaviness."
  • The Circulation Benefit: Targeted breast massage and pectoral release stimulate lymphatic drainage and venous return. This clears metabolic byproducts from the chest wall and improves the health of the mammary tissue.
  • The Performance Benefit: Releasing the Pectoralis Minor allows the ribcage to expand fully, maximising Max and restoring natural shoulder mechanics. If you have a shoulder or hip injury, this may slow the overall benefits, but it will definitely help with ROM. (ROM - Range of Motion)
